Prayer

It seems wrong somehow to post a cheery blog entry with all that's going on in the world.

The horrendous earthquake and subsequent nuclear problems in Japan.
The tragic bus accident in New York City.
The budget crisis that is ripping my home state of Wisconsin apart.
Tragedies in my own community - car accidents, illnesses, broken families, broken hearts.

I don't have the heart for a cheery blog post today.

But I am grateful that I serve a God that suffers with the world, and who doesn't leave us alone in our suffering.

I am grateful for Lent, and the challenging and comforting words of Jesus to his followers during this difficult season. "Follow me." "My yoke is easy and my burden is light." "Abundant life." "Living water." "For God so loved the world."

The world is a mess. Sometimes we're all a bit of a mess.

So today I ask, with the rest of the world, for mercy.

Kyrie Eleison.
Christe Eleison.
Kyrie Eleison.

Amen.
