I have a terrible sweet tooth. I have sweet TEETH, really. I just love a good bite of dessert.
One of the things I miss the most since becoming gluten free is eating Oreos. They were my comfort food cookie. After long days of teaching back in 2006, I'd often come home and make a little stack of three Oreos, pour a glass of milk, and unwind with a novel or the newest episode of Lost (back before Lost got truly terrible and absurd...).
It was a happy ritual. Little did I know it was why I always seemed to have a terrible stomachache soon thereafter. I thought it was the stress of a new job...
Since becoming gluten free, I've been looking for a passable Oreo substitute. I've tried some crumbly, tasteless, awful ones, too. But at long last, I've found it. The perfect faux-reo (haha, get it?!), from Kinnikinnick (which, for the record, is really fun to say).
It's chocolatey, just crumbly enough, and it holds up well when dunked in a glass of milk (or coconut milk, as I tend to do!). Nabisco's Oreos? Who needs them with Kinnikinnick around?
These are the cookies that I dipped in melted white chocolate and covered in sprinkles! Tasty :)
