There's an App for That

I travel quite a bit, between denominational meetings around the southern part of the state to out-of-state visits to see friends and family. We're quite a spread out bunch, really. My husband's family is in southern California, mine ranges from Minnesota to Michigan to Illinois, and we have friends as far-flung as Germany, Afghanistan, Patagonia, and Japan.

During my travels in the states, I've fallen in love with an app. It's called Find Me Gluten Free, and it's available on iPhone and Android.

Once it's downloaded, you simply let it use your current location, or type in an address, and it shows the restaurants around you that offer gluten free meals, menus, or specials.

It has saved me from hunger many a time, from Durham, North Carolina to Chicago to Miami, Florida. It's led me to Naked Pizza (yum!), Five Guys Burgers & Fries, and the Bluegill Café.

It even has a select option for chain restaurants, so you can find a little Mom-and-Pop restaurant instead of another Red Robin (you know I love you, Robin!).

It shows restaurant reviews as well, so you can see which travelers have had good experiences and whether they'd recommend a stop at whichever restaurant they are reviewing.

This is well worth a download. I use it often, and it rarely steers me wrong. When it does, I add my own review to a restaurant to help my fellow travelers.

What's your favorite gluten free app?
