Posana Cafe

The weekend before last, my husband and I headed to Asheville, NC to visit Posana Cafe.

Just over a year ago, I discovered that I was gluten-intolerant, thanks in large part to Heather (also known as the Gluten Free Cat). She helped me figure out my own gluten-intolerance after years of misdiagnosis, and since then has been a faithful sharer of all things gluten-free. Do I need to know what gf-cookie mix is tastiest? Heather knows. Am I in need of a dinner out but don't know where is safe to eat? Heather knows. She's one part gluten-free guru, one part big sister, and one part dear Christian friend.

I'm grateful every day I go through without stomach cramps, nausea, anemia, migraines, etc., that Heather and I met last year. And this gratitude is without even mentioning that she and her husband housed my husband while he began a PhD program and I finished my MDiv in New Jersey. In short, Heather is 100% awesome.

When my husband and I moved into town at the end of this summer, the first thing we did (after dragging in a million boxes...) was go to (gf!) dinner over at Heather and her husband's. The second thing we did was plan a joint trip to Posana's.

A five hour drive? That's nothing when there's an entire gluten-free restaurant at the end of it!

These were my first crab cakes ever. A-ma-zing.

What's that? A gluten-free hamburger bun and sweet potato fries? Yes, please! Heather's husband ordered this, and once it arrived, I was jealous... Luckily, he's a great food-sharer...

And dessert! Chocolate cake with praline filling!

And coconut macaroon cake, with cherry ice cream... I still dream of this one...

Posana's is well worth a long drive. We'll be going again before next fall, I can tell you that!
