I married a guy from Los Angeles.
Certain things happen when you marry a guy from Los Angeles. He'll probably root for the Lakers, for one (apparently no one roots for the Clippers). He'll have a particular grin on his face on sunny days that is absent when it's cloudy. He'll pull out his shorts and Rainbow sandals in March even though it's still in the 50s outside, and proclaim it "spring."
He'll also really, really like Mexican food.
I grew up in northern Wisconsin, which is not particularly well known for its Mexican food. We had fish frys, we ate sweet corn in the summer, we picked strawberries in July and apples in September. But Mexican food? For that you had to go to Taco Joe's, which was a decidedly suspicious cart.
I knew that marrying my husband would mean there'd be some Mexican food nights. Despite my distaste for beans, sour cream, and anything spicy, I loved him enough to overcome this little hurdle.
Four years into marriage, I'm surprised at myself.
I've fallen in love... with guacamole.
Here's my husband's amazing guac recipe. It'll go fast, so you might want to double it...
The L.A. Guy's Guacamole
3 fresh, ripe avacados
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
2 cloves garlic, very finely chopped
1 T. fresh lemon juice
salt to taste
Mash those avacados, mix in the other ingredients, and serve with tortilla chips or rice crackers. If you're making it ahead of time, use preserved lemon juice, not fresh, and the avacados won't discolor.
No gluten? No problem.
Oh my goodness, this is the Husband's absolute favorite guacamole recipe!!! He's going to be really excited about this one! We'll have to do a Mexican dinner when you're here. :)
