I've been sick for a couple of weeks now. I'm almost not-sick now, and since I'm (FINALLY!) on the mend, I thought I'd share some of my gluten free resources for getting through the winter sickies.
First, some cough drops:
So help me, I love these. They're also 100% gluten free, including their wild and mixed berry flavors. True, they're not chock-full of menthol or eucalyptus. True, they're mostly sugar and pectin. But they are gluten free, they don't hurt my throat, and they definitely take the edge off of a burnin' throat.
If you're more of a glutton for things that burn that cold out of you, Halls cough drops are now manufactured by Kraft, which means they will clearly list any wheat or gluten on the label. So if the ingredients list is clear, you're in the clear to menthol your little heart out.
Next stop? Chicken soup.
Gluten Free Café's chicken noodle is delicious. It's fast and easy and usually only around $2.50 per can. It doesn't beat made-from-scratch, but I'm not one to be clever in the kitchen when I have a death virus. If I can crawl to the stove and heat up a can of soup, I'm pretty happy.
Following the soup? Some vitamin C!
This is one of the only good parts about feeling under the weather. I splurge on the good juice. Otherwise this $3.50+ price tag is too rich for my blood. But when I'm sick, I get an orange juice treat. This stuff is like heaven in a glass. It is so deliciously orange-y that it has healing qualities. I swear.
And, finally, when the sore throat and stuffy nose are joined by serious tummy rumblings, enter Glutino:
These table crackers are delightfully bland. If I'm not sick I top them with a dozen different things, from crunchy peanut butter to red pepper spread. But when I am sick and my tummy is upset, their bland Saltine-esque taste is exactly perfect.
What's your go-to food when you're fighting off a nasty bug?
