On our marathon drive up to the northernlands of Minnesota, we got hungry.
Often when I'm traveling this means settling for a Wendy's baked potato or a hard-boiled egg from a gas station. (Yuck. Just... yuck.)
If I've planned ahead, it may mean a couple of Lara bars or a sandwich on Udi's bread.
But for the trip to see my sister's brand new baby, we threw things in the car in just a few minutes, so I didn't have time to pack food. And I really wasn't in the mood for a baked potato or a hard-boiled egg. It had been a long day at work. I'm still breastfeeding. I was hoooooongry.
Luckily we were just outside Wisconsin Dells when the hunger pangs struck. Uno's to the rescue!
Uno's has an incredible gluten free menu full of things like pizza, hamburgers (with buns! what, whaaaat?), and salads. Not only did they prepare us a delicious, piping-hot pizza - the man I spoke with (to place a take-out order) told me about their daily deal, even though I didn't think to ask.
"You can get a second pizza for just $2," he said, through a thick Scandanavian accent. "It's really practically free!"
He walked me through which toppings were gluten free, and I was impressed with his knowledge and candor. "We cannot guarantee that the sausage is 100% gluten free, but the pepperoni is," he said.
"Pepperoni it is, then!" I agreed.
My husband and I munched on our two pizzas for hours while on the road with great thanks. I drove while he de-cheesed my slices (dairy's still giving me some trouble, darn it). If we'd had time for a sit down dinner, I would have loved to try one of their burgers.
Have you visited an Uno's? If you haven't, you definitely should! It's worth writing home about!
